  1. The Two Ways To Win A Pot. A pot is won either by holding the best hand at showdown or by making a bet that nobody calls, and every strategy idea in poker grows out of that second option.
  2. Position Is Worth More Than Cards. Acting last in a betting round lets you see what everyone else does before you commit money, and that information is worth more than a small upgrade in card quality.
  3. Think In Ranges, Not Hands. Strong players never ask what one hand their opponent holds; they ask what set of hands that opponent could hold given every action so far, and how that set collides with theirs.
  4. Pot Odds, Outs And Equity. Every call has a price, every draw has a share of the pot, and calling is profitable only when your share is bigger than the price.
  5. Bet With A Reason. Every bet you make is either for value, meaning worse hands call, or a bluff, meaning better hands fold, and a bet that does neither is money donated.
  6. A Solid Baseline, Then Deliberate Exploits. Game theory optimal play is a defensive floor that no opponent can attack, and exploitative play is the deliberate deviation from that floor to punish a specific mistake you have actually observed.
  7. Expected Value, Variance And Your Bankroll. You are paid for making decisions with positive expected value, not for winning individual pots, so you must judge yourself on decisions, survive the swings, and beat the rake.
